Having a hard hour or so... went to the Bible, cause there aren't a lot of friends available to one at 2 AM...
Didn't actually find a whole lot of comfort, but I did find a picture stuck in the middle of Nathan's Bible of a dog named Pumpkin who has one brown eye and one blue.
Pumpkin is apparently part of the Oxford Health Care- Home Care and Hospice Program. He (or she) looks like a pretty genial chap.
:( Boo, hard hour.
ReplyDeletePumpkin sounds pretty great. Once when Miriam was in the hospital, I saw them rolling in some kind of wheeled suitcase with a mesh window. When they passed me, I realized there was a beagle inside. He looked very polite. Because of this, and because I have a friend training her poodle to be a therapy dog, I looked into getting Stevie certified as a therapy cat (yep... I'm insane). To be certified, he has to be able to be surprised by a loud noise without freaking out, tolerate an "uncomfortable embrace," and allow himself to be passed around in a basket. He does okay with the noise and the corporal cuddling, but he keeps jumping out of the dang basket.
This reminds me of a recent moment of the surreal. On the way to work the other day, a young woman was crossing the street (jaywalking across five lanes, really) with a golden retriever. He had on the kind of harness that therapy dogs use. The woman was also wearing a large backpack, like long-distance hikers use. A calico cat was clawing its way out of the top of the backpack. The woman looked very distressed and kept spinning around trying to look at the cat. It was one of the oddest things I've ever seen at eight in the morning. I thought you would enjoy the mental picture.
